NPCSAZ

Operational Overview

The Muzhil field is located offshore in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez. It is situated nine kilometers south of EGPC’s Ras Budran field in water depths of 35 meters.

The concession falls within a very prolific hydrocarbon area that is surrounded by ‘Giant’ fields produced an excess of 1.2 billion Stock Tank Barrel of Oil.

The nearby fields are Ras Budran, October, N. October and Rudies /Sidri oil Fields that are produced from the Miocene, Cretaceous and Nubia sandstone reservoirs as well as the Eocene fractured carbonates.

Exploration in the SAZ Concession area started in the 1970s, with a total of 12 wells drilled by several operators based on 2D seismic. The first 3D seismic survey was acquired by BP in 2003, and this was followed by the Muzhil field discovery on the eastern side of the concession in 2004.

NPC acquired the Concession in 2014 and started production in 2016.

Oil is processed at a 5,000 b/d mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) and shipped to Ras Budran process facilities through pipeline.

The certified 2P reserves, thoroughly evaluated and validated as of June 2023, showcase a volume of 7.9 million barrels of oil equivalent.
